Crawford: “All lights are flipping on” for MHTC opportunities

While plan A for Memorial Hospital of Texas County was turned down by voters in a vote on a one percent sales tax failed, other courses of action were being considered and explored, with reports requested to move forward in that direction.
Some of the work being done includes moving forward with the 340B prescription drug program, looking into whether converting the hospital into a critical access care facility will be profitable, and continuing toward restarting the swing bed program.

Commissioners approve 30-Day burn ban for Texas County

Texas County Commissioners met with Guymon Fire Department Chief Dean McFadden during the regular Monday morning meeting to discuss a county-wide burn ban. During the meeting, the commissioners went over the wording of the ban and discussed whether the county meets requirements for declaring a ban.

Burn ban exemption for ag producers passes House

On Monday, the Oklahoma House of Representatives voted to pass partisan House Bill 2646 to amend language granting exemptions to some agricultural producers during county and state burn bans. The bill also moves to change the length of time a burn ban is active.

There are many ways individuals and groups can demonstrate pride in their communities, but sometimes the opportunities to do just that aren’t quite so clear as a spring community cleanup is.
This Saturday, the Great American Cleanup Oklahoma hits the streets, yards, alleys and parks as Guymonites have the chance to not only get a jump on making Guymon look like a great place to call home, but also the rare chance to drop off a lot of stuff that might be outside of the budget to haul off most of the year.

Rollover accident north of Goodwell All three victims hospitalized

A Dodge pickup truck eastbound on County Road Z was struck by a Jeep Liberty southbound on Mile 23 north of Goodwell on Thursday evening. The impact caused the pickup, with a female and juvenile male inside to roll. An adult female was driving the Jeep. All those involved in the accident were transported by Guymon and Goodwell EMS. The Texas County Sheriff's Department, Guymon and Goodwell Fire Departments and the Goodwell Police Department were on the scene to assist. Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating.
UPDATE: As of 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, all three victims are listed in stable condition.

Repeated revenue failures are being reported out of the treasurer’s office, agencies are being cut across the board statewide, and a lot of Oklahomans are asking what is being done to fix it.

From hosting the National Finals Rodeo to being the home of many world champions, the state is well known for its rodeo lore. Still, only this community in the heart of the Panhandle can boast of being home to Oklahoma’s Hall of Fame Rodeo.
Fresh off its induction into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame last summer, the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo will show the world just why during four performances, set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6; 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena.

A mid-morning vehicle fire threatened a City owned building. At 10:44am Tuesday morning, Guymon Firefighters were called to 322 NE. 6th for a reported vehicle fire. Upon Firefighters arrival, “they found a dump truck with a wood chipper trailer connected that was engulfed in flames”, said Assistant Fire Chief Grant Wadley. The truck was parked next to the City of Guymon Street Department warehouse on the west side.

Board of Control votes to go to critical care; commissioners allocate funds to pay the bills

As work continues toward bringing Memorial Hospital of Texas County through financial recovery, the Board of Control has worked through the past few weeks to assess options for that recovery and what options are available. Meanwhile, funds from the 40 percent of the sales tax fund through the county is being tapped to ensure the bills are paid so services essential to the operation of the hospital continue.

Information leads to three drug arrests

Last week, the Texas County Sheriff’s department executed warrants based on information obtained, leading to the arrest of three individuals on methamphetamine possession and intent to distribute.
Warrants were served on March 31 at two residents on S. Lelia and S. Quinn Streets, based on information from another individual arrested by the department.
During the search at the residence on S. Lelia, officers found 14 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value over $40,000. The search also revealed paraphernalia suggesting an intent to distribute.

J. Dale Hallagin promoted to Lieutenant Colonel

Washington, DC; The Pentagon – On April 1, 2016, J. Dale Hallagin, U.S. Air Force, was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the U.S. Air Force Memorial overlooking the Pentagon and Washington DC. Hallagin, the son of the late J. Arnold Hallagin and Joyce Hallagin of Guymon, joined the Air Force in 1988 under the delayed enlistment program after his junior year at Guymon High School. He served for 12 years as an enlisted Airman before graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University. In 2001, Hallagin was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant and served as communications officer at Barksdale AFB, LA and Cheyenne Mountain AB, CO; then as an instructor at Maxwell AFB, AL. Following instructor duty, he completed a graduate degree in Military Operational Art and Science. After spending 7 months of 2015 in Afghanistan, Hallagin returned to his current duty station at The Pentagon in Washington, DC with the Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration Division of the Air Staff. Hallagin lives in Northern Virginia with his wife Amy, daughter of Harold & Debbie Tyson of Guymon, and their 3 children, Malory, Casady and Wyatt.

Holding cell suicide investigated by OSBI Sheriff’s department not found at fault

The Texas County Sheriff’s Department recently released information on the suicide of Duane Andrew Schaff of Tucson, Arizona while in custody at a holding cell at the county jail facility.
Schaff was arrested in early 2014 on charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a controlled dangerous substance without a tax stamp affixed. He was released on bond with a contract obligation from the bondsman to have a GPS monitor.

Highly qualified, Boley runs for Texas County Sheriff

When it comes to public service, there is one man in Texas County who stands out among many with the dedication, integrity and honesty to serve in law enforcement leadership.
Sheriff Matt Boley worked under the direction of former Sheriff Rick Caddell, who retired at the end of August in 2015. Caddell served under the leadership of longtime sheriff Arnold Peoples. It is a long-standing tradition of law enforcement excellence both the older and younger generations of Texas County residents recognize.

Charity Chuckwagon coming to Bob's Cowboy Bar April 23

The Charity Chuckwagon event will benefit Anthony (Chico) Moncada and Adan Devora, Guymon High School students who are both in the battle against cancer. The chuckwagon will be at Bob's Cowboy Bar April 23 and food service will be from 1:30-2:00 p.m. All donations will go in their entirety to these young men.
