Guymon Fire Department extinguished a grassfire Tuesday afternoon behind the Girl Scout Office, 1002 N.W. Fifth St. No one was injured.
About 2:50 p.m., firefighters responded to a call referencing a grassfire. Grant Wadley, assistant fire chief at GFD, said fire and smoke was showing behind the building “on the steep slopes leading into the over flow area behind Sunset Lake.”
Three fire units responded and were able to quickly put out the blaze before it was able to spread into trees and a near building. Less than an acre burned before the fire was under control. Wadley said dry conditions, moderate south wide and high temperatures made the area dangerous for fire activity.
Girl Scout Office employees were inside the building at the time of the blaze, but were not aware of the grassfire. Fire Investigators listed the blaze as suspicious in nature and is asking the public for any information. GFD can be contacted at (580) 338-5536 and Guymon Police Department can be contacted at (580) 338-6525.
