UPDATE: Suspect in the Walmart shooter hostage situation has been shot by SWAT and is dead. The hostage is safe. Police are asking for people to avoid the area.

According to ABC News Channel 7 of Amarillo, witnesses who are employees at the store have stated that the shooter is a coworker. Police said they have not confirmed any gunshot victims at this time. They said this appears to be a workplace-type incident.
Police are asking the public to stay away from the area so officers can focus on the scene instead of traffic.
