Guymon and Goodwell firefighters are taking up the battle for a family and one boy named Monson Wilkins with fundraising efforts. Monson is currently fighting leukemia, and the firefighters in both communities are prepared to rally around him as he fights for his life.
Monson is the son of Panhandle State Director of Vocal Music Dr. Dee Wilkins.
Firefighter and Paramedic Spencer Leiter is leading the effort to help the family as they seek treatment for the young man's cancer.
He added when the firefighters heard about the boy's hospitalization and diagnosis, they knew they wanted to do something to help.
In long-standing tradition, they will be sporting special designed shirts, openly displaying support and love for Monson's family.
"Guymon firefighters will be wearing this shirt as our uniform for the whole month of February, and we will continue to sell shirts all month," Leiter continued.
The Goodwell Fire Department has also joined in the effort to raise funds for Monson's treatment.
Leiter said there is no limit to the number of shirts that can be sold, and firefighters will also accept donations for those who wish to help without the purchase of a shirt.

Shirts are also available at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell. Orders at the university can be submitted to the Vice President of Outreach office at 101 Sewell Hall. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward Monson's costs.
According to a social media post from OPSU earlier this month, Monson is receiving treatments in Oklahoma City. A Wilkins Family Fund has been opened at Anchor D Bank, which has branches in Texhoma, Goodwell and Guymon. Donations can also be made online at gofundme.com/wilkins-family-fund.
