Two people were arrested Sunday evening after a traffic stop by Texas County Sheriff’s Deputies, resulting in the seizure of $100,000 worth of marijuana.
26-year-old Tong Thao of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and 26-year-old Cha Xiong of St. Paul, Minnesota were stopped after 10 p.m. on Highway 54 near Mile 33 in a silver 2016 Toyota Rav 4 for a traffic violation.
During the stop, deputies conducted a vehicle search. The search revealed two large duffle bags and a small suitcase containing 32 vacuum sealed bags of high grade marijuana in the cargo area of the vehicle. The total amount of the marijuana came in at just over 17 pounds.
Thao and Xiong were arrested and booked into the Texas County Detention Center on violations of the Uniform Dangerous Substances Act.
According to the report from the Texas County Sheriff’s Department, the drugs were being transported from Palm Springs, California to St. Paul, Minnesota.
